What a beautiful day! It's nice and sunny and is supposed to be warm too for the next few days!

Hmm...let's see what I've been up to in the past few weeks. I went to the New Balance sample sale and ended up getting a sleeveless Shebeest top. There was also a North Face sample sale but since I didn't go to it until the end of the weekend there weren't anymore women's hightop goretex shoes. Oh well, next year. Also last weekend Ray and I went to Canada Place to see the 3D movie Deep Sea 3D at the Imax theatre there. I really enjoyed it especially the part with the turtles. There were so many fish cleaning off their shells! Ray and I saw 2 of the cruise ships leaving Canada Place...first time for that so it was quite impressive. We went to the new Cactus Club for dinner.

For some reason I always thought that fire hydrants were red. But a little while ago I was astonished to see someone painting (and not graffiti) some on a street in Burnaby. That's when I noticed that the Burnaby fire hydrants are white with red caps and a green top. They also had a serial number painted on them. When they were finished they were quite nice looking with their new coat of paint.

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. I’ll summarize the highlights of the past month.

Ray and I went to White Rock about a month ago for dinner at Charlie’s Don’t Surf. It was in the Entertainment book. I don’t think we’ll go back there again but there are other restaurants in the book I wouldn’t mind trying like Washington Avenue Grill and Sideshows. I didn’t realize that White Rock’s Marine Drive was such a beach-side street lined with restaurants. Neither Ray nor I had seen the whale mural or the big white rock before so these were quite interesting to see.

There was a big family reunion picnic on my mom’s side that was at Central Park. It was a sweltering hot day. There were over 80 people there so it was a good turn-out. C and E weren’t able to make it as they were on a hiking trip to Golden Ears for their 1st anniversary. I think we left the park around 4:00 or 5:00. Mom, Dad and I went to the Metrotown food court to eat afterwards. The Hastings casino had apparently renovated (I didn’t even know there was one there before at the race track) and had reopened the day before so we decided to go there to check it out. When we got to the parking lot we found out that the only way to go in was to pay for admission into the PNE. Since that wasn’t worth it and we were going to the PNE the next day anyways, we went to the casino by the Radisson Hotel instead.

Mom, Dad, Ray and I went out for lunch at Café Pacifica at Canada Place. The lunch buffet was about $40 or $50 but luckily we were ordering off the menu. We had gift certificates that we had given to Mom and Dad for their anniversary plus Entertainment book coupons so we were well-equipped for the expensive meal. There were 2 cruise ships docked at Canada Place so after lunch we went outside on the restaurant patio and looked at them. Mom and Dad had never seen a cruise ship before so it was quite exciting for them.

The next day, Mom, Dad and I went to the PNE. They hadn’t been in years since I was a kid. Ray was so excited he didn’t have to be dragged there this year. It was another sweltering hot day so we went to the casino first to check it out and cool off. While Mom and Dad were still in the casino I stepped out to watch the Flying Canucks acrobats perform as they were close by the casino. We left the casino and watched the Toontastic parade which was starting right beside it. Then we went and saw the Superdogs. This was my record – seeing the Superdogs twice in one summer as I had already seen them at the Calgary Stampede, although they were different dogs. We went to farm country and only saw one building before we had to leave as my parents couldn’t take the stifling heat inside. Mom wanted to get some mini-donuts so we stopped there. Then we went and saw the Peking acrobats which were really good. After the acrobat show Mom and Dad wanted to go back to the casino. I was going to watch the lumberjack show as it hadn’t been at the PNE for years. On the way there we stopped and watch Billy Ray Cyrus singing. I went back to the farm country before I met up with Mom and Dad at the casino. C and E were back from their trip so we went and met up with them.

I went out for dinner with D at the Tantra Waterfront Lounge and Grill in Lonsdale Quay. The view from the Quay is beautiful. I haven’t been there for a while. I went and visited Uncle T before dinner who was at his kiosk.

I went to the Old Spaghetti Factory at the Richmond SilverCity for the first time. Apparently the restaurant has been there for 6 years. It was for A’s b’day. I had spaghetti and meatballs and then the free ice cream for dessert. I was sooooo full but managed to eat a piece of birthday ice cream cake from DQ back at the house.

I got an email from the Great Canadian Casino saying that there was free admission the last week of the PNE with the BC Gold Casino card. I guess they wanted more people to go to the renovated casino there. I couldn’t pass up the chance to go for free so I went to the PNE for my record 2nd time in one season 2 weeks ago during the PNE’s last weekend. I went by myself and saw the Superdogs for the 3rd time in one summer! What a record! This time the Superdog show had a mascot which I have never seen before. The mascot had one of those fake doggies on a leash. I watched the Clydesdales briefly going around the Agrodome then I went to the farm country stables and petted a lot of horses. When I went with my parents the horse section was closed to the public as they were getting ready for a show in the Agrodome. I went to the Wheels of Steels show and watch the ATV races and the motorcross stunts. I went to Playland to see if there were any stuffed animals worth trying for. I played a dart game and hit all 3 darts so got a small magenta dog and dinosaur.

Then I met up with Ray and we watched the Mummy returns movie which was action-packed with Jet Li.

The next day I played badminton and forgot to call A to sing her happy birthday until about 11pm so it was too late.

On Labour Day D came over and recaulked our bathtub – Thanks! Then we went to the PNE for my record 3rd time in one season. We watched part of the CTV 6:00 news that was live with Pamela Martin and Bill Good. We wandered around the farm country buildings and tried to see what was going on in the pig racing area. But it was too busy there and all I could catch a glimpse of was a pig that was running around by itself. The races weren’t scheduled to start for a while but they were doing something else there. I wanted to pet the horses again but that area was closed this time. We went to the Coliseum to the White Spot to pick up some food and then watched the cow milking demo. We went to the marketplace where I got a few handheld Chinese fans for badminton, some Tupperware midget containers and a copper magnetic bracelet for my arthritis. http://www.sergiolubcanada.ab.ca/

I went to a co-worker’s retirement party 2 Fridays ago. Then I came down with a sore throat and had a cold for about a week. Still managed to make it to Nanaimo for my dad’s b’day last Saturday.

Yesterday Ray and I went to Science World and had lots of fun playing, figuring out the puzzles and trying out all the gadgets. I’d heard that the movie Dark Knight was the 2nd highest grossing movie since Titanic so we went and saw it last night. It was over 2 and a half hours long! I found the first part slow as I kept looking at my watch but it sure picked up – what a superb acting performance by the late Heath Ledger.
