FIRST ANNUAL JINGLE BELL RUN & WALK FOR ARTHRITIS
I'm excited to be a part of the inaugural Jingle Bell Run & Walk for Arthritis. It's a 5km route and I'll be walking. After being part of the Arthritis Society's Joints in Motion team for the Honolulu Marathon 2006 I'm glad that I could be part of another Arthritis Society event. This being only 5km and a local event, I don't have the challenges of the rigourous outdoor training in the cold damp weather and the high fundraising amount.

October - B'day, Karaoke, and Thanksgiving
October was memorable for my b'day lunches, dinners and Thanksgiving dinners. A and I went out for dinner at Fuku-san Izakaya Karaoke Restaurant at Parker Place in Richmond. http://www.richmondbc.worldweb.com/RestaurantsBars/KaraokeBars/ I've been to Aberdeen Mall and I think Yaohan too but never Parker Place. Looking in the windows of some of the clothing stores I felt like a giant - the clothes were so tiny.
Dinner was served in our private karaoke room. I've never had a meal in a karaoke room before. It was liberating to be able to sing and not care how out of tune I was. I had soooo much fun. Both A and I are tone-deaf but my voice is louder than hers so I suggested that she use the microphone and I didn't as I couldn't hear her singing some times. I was exhausted afterwards - singing is a lot of work as you put a lot of emotion into it. It was interesting to find out a lot of the words for songs that I've known for years. I had no idea.

Movies - Quarantine and Changeling
Ray and I have seen a few movies in the past few weeks. We went and saw Quarantine. The only things I knew about it is that it was a cross between I am Legend and Cloverfield. I liked I am Legend and didn't know anything about Cloverfield except that it was through the few of a very shaky video camera that makes you nauseous watching it. For Quarantine they said it wasn't as bad. Boy, was I in for a shock at this movie. I was terrorized and horrified and came out of there with a really splitting headache and a really sore neck and back. This was from the tension of the movie as it was sooooo scary. My body didn't recover until after I got home and the tension finally went away. I was in sooo much pain though in the car ride home. After I came home I checked the show out online and it indeed was a horror show! It was also classified as "R for bloody violent and disturbing content, terror and language." Oh well. Here's what the show is about...note SPOILER alert! I'm glad I didn't check out the website before I saw it as I would've spoiled it: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809956042/details Even though the show was so terrorizing I still enjoyed it as the storyline was good and original. The beginning was very good and original before the terror started. I wouldn't recommend this show for anyone with heart problems or high blood pressure.
Changeling on the other hand was a drama. At the beginning of the movie it said that it was based on a true story. Usually that type of revelation is at the end of the movie, not the beginning. During the movie, Ray and I both said to each other - oooooh, this was a true story! Hard to believe. Angelina Jolie did a lot of crying in the movie. I enjoyed this show too. The story and acting were good and kept my interest the whole way through. Ray said that it was good when I asked him which is a change from the usual "okay" response I usually get after movies. Here's more info on this movie: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809945088/info

Flu
I came down with the flu a few weeks ago and by the end of the first week I became quite congested and phleghmy. Even after 2 weeks now I still have to clear my throat throughout the day and blow my nose the odd time. But at least I don't need to spray with Dristan to be able to breathe at night. Perhaps I will get the flu shot this year. The one and only time I had it was quite a few years ago. I recall that it was extremely painful and felt like I had been hit with a baseball bat on the arm.

Yoga
I went to my first yoga class yesterday, it was a beginner one and there were about 30 or so people there. When asked who were first-timers to yoga I think at least a third or more of us put up our hand. My back and neck were stiff and sore before the class but after the class my whole body was so relaxed, what a difference! I hadn't played badminton for a few weeks as I was sick - had a flu/cold. I could feel the difference playing badminton. I was stronger and didn't get sore in the usual lower back and neck like I usually do. I also slept a lot better and easier last night. Even today my neck and back aren't sore like they usually are. My triceps, pecs and a few other muscles are a bit stiff from the yoga but nothing too uncomfortable.
